When making an investment in a custom wig, however, you’ll need to know how to give it the proper care. Whether it's synthetic or human-- there are several steps you can take to ensure you get the most life out of your new hair unit.

Wigs are a way to feel confident and stylish, it’s an investment in your self- care, so you must ensure you protect it. Treat the wig as though it's delicate because it truly is. Over time your wig can grow more fragile, so to ensure its longevity, be intentional on how you handle it when it's on and off your head.

One of the most important steps to taking care of your wig is not stripping it of moisture. Because the hair is not growing out of your head, there are no natural oils keeping the hair hydrated. It’s important to wash your wig every 6-8 weeks or if you wear it more often, a good rule of thumb is after 30 wears.

When washing your wig, you’ll want to be intentional on using products that correlate with its quality. If you invested in a human hair custom unit, you’ll want to use a high-quality gentle shampoo, conditioner, and serum. Cheaper products tend to have a lot more chemical components that can damage the wig over time. If you were to purchase a luxury vehicle, you wouldn’t fill it up with Regular fuel, but instead with Premium. Treat your custom wig as a luxury item.

Don’t Use Too Much Heat
Heat in moderation on Human hair wigs is okay, but always use a heat protectant before use. Like our own hair, too much heat can lead to split and damaged ends on the wig. If this does occur, you can take it to a professional to have it trimmed, but prevention is key.

You’ll want to keep the wig stored in a safe space away from heat and humid areas. When not in use, store it in the box it came in, in a satin bag or on a mannequin head.
